LIMGRAVE

— BOSSES IN THIS REGION —
MARGIT, THE FELL OMEN

GODRICK THE GRAFTED
Stormveil Castle
First shardbearer. Phase 2 grafts a dragon's head onto his arm.
TREE SENTINEL
Limgrave (overworld)
An infamous early-game wall placed in plain sight to set expectations.
SOLDIER OF GODRICK
Cave of Knowledge
Tutorial boss. Designed to be lost to, then beaten on retry.
STRAY MIMIC TEAR
Nokron, Eternal City
Mirrors your loadout. Unequip everything before the fight to trivialize it.

Dragon-Burnt Ruins
First dragon. Mount Torrent, hit the legs, dismount when grounded.
BEASTMAN OF FARUM AZULA (GROVESIDE CAVE)
Groveside Cave
Common early-game test for parry timing.
PATCHES
Murkwater Cave
Lower his HP to ~25%, then he begs for mercy and joins your story.

Forlorn Hound Evergaol
Aggressive teleport-strike pattern. A skill check for dodging directionally.
TIBIA MARINER (SUMMONWATER)
Summonwater Village
Rewards Skeletal Militiaman ashes — best low-level summon.
REGAL ANCESTOR SPIRIT
Siofra River Well
Optional ancestral stag. Drops a remembrance for a sacred sword.
ANCESTOR SPIRIT
Siofra River
Easier version of Regal Ancestor. Holy damage shines.
Overview
Limgrave is where every Tarnished wakes up, and FromSoftware designed it to teach you the language of the game through open-world discovery rather than hand-holding. The western half — the grassy, sun-soaked cliffs around the Church of Elleh and Gatefront Ruins — is genuinely forgiving. The eastern half, Mistwood, is darker, more wooded, and home to stronger enemies that will punish overconfidence. Stormveil Castle, which caps the region's main story beat, is a genuine difficulty spike compared to everything else in Limgrave, so treat the open world as mandatory homework before you knock on Margit's door. Threat level overall: low, with pockets of "you probably shouldn't be here yet."
Recommended Approach
When you exit the Stranded Graveyard tutorial, resist the urge to charge the golden Tree Sentinel on horseback. Instead, turn left toward the Church of Elleh to meet Merchant Kale, grab the Crafting Kit, and buy the Torch if you're playing a non-magic build. Rest at the Site of Grace here to trigger Renna's appearance later, which unlocks Spirit Calling and the Lone Wolf Ashes — your single best early investment.
From Elleh, ride north to the Gatefront Ruins to find the Whetstone Knife in a chest underground, unlocking Ash of War socketing. This one item meaningfully expands your build options for the rest of the run.
Work through western Limgrave methodically. Clear Groveside Cave (Beastman of Farum Azula) for easy Runes and a Flamedrake Talisman. Explore Murkwater Cave to trigger the Patches event — don't kill him; he opens a shop. Hit the Coastal Cave to unlock access to the Church of Dragon Communion on the offshore island, which sells Dragon Communion incantations if you killed Agheel.
For Mistwood and the eastern section, listen for the wolf howling near the Mistwood Ruins, then gesture Finger Snap (learned from Kale) to bring down Blaidd. His questline eventually leads to some of the best mid-game content in the Lands Between. While in the east, handle the Summonwater Village Tibia Mariner — it's trivial and drops the Deathroot, which you can give to Gurranq at the Bestial Sanctum for powerful Bestial incantations.
Once you're around level 20–25, take the evergaols. Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at the Forlorn Hound Evergaol is a mandatory stop if you're helping Blaidd and rewards the Bloodhound's Fang, which remains competitive through mid-game for Dexterity builds.
Key Items
- Lone Wolf Ashes — Given by Renna at the Church of Elleh after you've rested at the Gatefront Grace. Your most reliable summon through the entire early game.
- Whetstone Knife — Chest in the basement of Gatefront Ruins. Unlocks Ash of War application at any Site of Grace. Do not skip this.
- Bloodhound's Fang — Reward for defeating Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. A Curved Greatsword with built-in bleed and a superb weapon art; carries Dex builds deep into the mid-game.
- Flamedrake Talisman — Drops from Beastman of Farum Azula in Groveside Cave. Fire resistance talisman, particularly useful against Agheel and Godrick's fire attacks.
- Erdsteel Dagger — Found in the Gatefront Ruins camp on a corpse. Excellent for Faith builds as it scales with Faith as its primary stat.
Boss Order
- Soldier of Godrick — Tutorial boss. Exists to confirm you understand blocking and attacking. Kill it.
- Beastman of Farum Azula (Groveside Cave) — First real minor dungeon. Introduces the cave loop format.
- Flying Dragon Agheel — Tackle him on horseback once you've got Torrent. Stay under his belly, bait fire breath, and punish. Drops a Dragon Heart for Dragon Communion.
- Patches — Not a real fight; let it play out for the merchant unlock.
- Bloodhound Knight Darriwil — Evergaol fight with a fast, aggressive knight. Summon Blaidd here for an easier time and to progress his quest.
- Tibia Mariner (Summonwater Village) — Slow, passive, basically free Runes and a Deathroot.
- Ancestor Spirit / Regal Ancestor Spirit (Nokron/Hallowhorn Grounds) — Optional, but worth doing if you've lit the eight bonfires in Mistwood's Hallowhorn Grounds. Beautiful fight, solid Remembrance reward.
- Tree Sentinel — Skip him initially. Come back at level 20+ once you've got a +3 or +4 weapon and a clear idea of your build. Drops the Golden Halberd, one of the best early Faith weapons.
- Margit, the Fell Omen — Gateway to Stormveil. Use Margit's Shackle (buy from Patches) to briefly stun him in Phase 1. Summon Jellyfish Spirit or Lone Wolf, and pressure his second phase hard.
- Godrick the Grafted — Equip the Flamedrake Talisman, dodge into his swings, and when he grafts a dragon arm in Phase 2, stay on his left side. Drops the Godrick's Great Rune and Remembrance of the Grafted.
Exit Path
After claiming Godrick's Great Rune and activating it at the Limgrave Tower Divine Tower east of Stormveil, you have two natural next steps. The Grand Lift of Dectus route takes you through Liurnia of the Lakes — reached by exiting north through Stormveil's back gate. Liurnia is broader, weirder, and home to Raya Lucaria Academy. Alternatively, explore Weeping Peninsula to the south of Limgrave for a self-contained detour with the Castle Morne dungeon and the Leonine Misbegotten boss, which is good Rune farming and yields the Grafted Blade Greatsword. Most players head to Liurnia first.
