Overview

Crumbling Farum Azula is a storm-wracked citadel suspended in a perpetual tempest, accessible only after lighting the Erdtree flame at the Forge of the Giants. Stone platforms, spiraling towers, and broken bridges hang impossibly above an endless void, connected by teleporting tornadoes and collapsing walkways. The aesthetic is ancient and deeply melancholic — this is the home of the beastmen and their god, and it feels like the end of the world, because it more or less is. Once you arrive, the Roundtable Hold burns and several NPC questlines enter their final chapters, so make sure your loose ends are tied before you commit.

Threat level is high. Beastman soldiers hit hard and fast, the two Draconic Tree Sentinels guarding a side door are optional but punishing, and lightning dragons patrol open areas. Expect constant chip damage if you rush. At level 120–150 you should have the stats to survive, but careless play still ends runs quickly.

Recommended Approach

Arrive at the Stranded Graveyard Site of Grace — the one you're teleported to — and immediately take stock. Do not sprint forward into open areas; the first large plaza has a Crucible Knight and a beastman patrol that will happily sandwich you.

Hug the right side of the initial structures to reach the Crumbling Farum Azula main Site of Grace. From here, work downward through the ruins methodically. The interior sections with beastmen wielding curved swords are manageable one at a time; pull them with a ranged attack to avoid group aggro. Lightning dogs appear frequently in the lower corridors — they stagger easily but deal surprising lightning buildup on repeat hits.

When you reach the open bridge area with the large dragons circling, stay near cover. You do not need to fight the dragons; they can be outrun or avoided entirely. The Tempest-Facing Balcony Site of Grace is your key waypoint before the Godskin Duo fog gate — rest here and top off your flasks.

For traversal: look for the small tornado pillars of light scattered across broken platforms. Stepping into them teleports you to otherwise unreachable ledges and is the primary way to find the Placidusax arena and several hidden items.

Key Items

  • Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman — Found on a corpse in the lower ruins, past the beastman archers near the second set of stairs. One of the best physical damage reduction talismans in the game; grab it before the endgame stretch.

  • Rune Arc × multiple — Scattered throughout the region on corpses and in urns. Stock up here since Maliketh is imminent and you'll want Great Runes active for him.

  • Maliketh's Black Blade (Remembrance reward) — After defeating Maliketh, his Remembrance can be traded at Roundtable Hold for this colossal sword, which carries the deadly Destined Death ash of war. A top-tier Faith scaling weapon.

  • Dragonlord Placidusax's Remembrance — Reward for the optional remembrance boss. Trade it for either the Placidusax's Ruin incantation or the Dragon King's Cragblade, both excellent late-game tools worth the detour.

  • Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone — Located in a chest near the fog gate approach before Maliketh. This upgrades a weapon to +25 (somber) or +10 max, so save it for a weapon you plan to keep through the finale.

Boss Order

  1. Beast Clergyman (3/10) — The first phase of the Maliketh encounter. He hurls rocks and does aggressive melee combos, but his openings are generous and he telegraphs heavily. Treat him as a warm-up. Summons work well here; the Black Knife Tiche is particularly effective since she avoids his ground slams cleanly.

  2. Maliketh, the Black Blade (5/10) — Phase two triggers at 50% HP when Beast Clergyman transforms. His combos extend dramatically and every hit applies Destined Death, shredding your maximum HP temporarily. Aggression is the correct response — he staggers well and staying close negates many of his leaping attacks. Bring a fast weapon and keep pressure on. Do not stand at mid-range; that's where his blade projectiles are most dangerous.

  3. Godskin Duo (5/10) — Found in the Dragon Temple area, accessible via a branching path before Maliketh. Two Godskin enemies share a single HP pool, which regenerates unless both are dead simultaneously or you exhaust it fully with sustained damage. Deathroot-related consumables, bleed, or any fast multi-hit weapon accelerates the shared pool drain considerably. The Mimic Tear or any tanky spirit ash helps control one enemy while you focus the other. Sleep pots thrown at one will briefly knock it out, giving you a clean one-on-one window.

  4. Dragonlord Placidusax (5/10, optional) — Reached by lying down on a specific altar platform in the lower void area, accessible via tornado teleport. One of the most visually spectacular fights in the game. He breathes golden lightning and teleports aggressively, but his attack windows are long. Stay under his body when possible and punish the recovery after each teleport slam. Well worth doing before progressing.

Exit Path

Defeating Maliketh triggers a cutscene that transports you to Leyndell, Ashen Capital — the burned ruins of the Royal Capital. This is the point of no return for several questlines and NPC purchases tied to the unburned Leyndell, so if you haven't bought everything from Corhyn, progressed Goldmask's quest to its final stage, or spoken to Fia in the Deeproot Depths, handle those before engaging Maliketh. After the transition, continue toward the Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace and push toward the game's final bosses.
